EU and UK Agree Solution on the Internal Market Bill

Looks like the clauses in the internal market bill won't be needed after all.

A UK Government source tells Guido “Maroš Šefčovič and his team were constructive and pragmatic. We are pleased that we have reached agreement in principle on a package to apply in all circumstances that will protect Northern Ireland’s place in the U.K’s customs territory, uphold the peace process and give certainty to people and businesses in Northern Ireland”

Mmmm... I won't believe anything that is or isn't supposed to be going to happen until we are into January 2021.

If correct - and at first glance it does indeed look promising - it seems that the EU have at last realised that using Ireland as a bargaining chip has not worked.

Better, it removes any potential obstacles which might have convinced others that the GFA was under threat.

The border in Ireland has nothing to do with the GFA, neither does the WA. However, the EU/Republic of Ireland would end up needing to put a hard border up if Boris invoked the clauses in the internal markets bill - they walked right into that one. The way they weaponised the border in Ireland has come to bite them on the ass. If they didn't put up the border, it would expose their lies and deceit over the border and how they deliberately used the GFA to try and get the UK to stay in the EU.

Tut tut.

That is correct.
How some people will continue to try and insist that Boris & the government are (to use their basic surmise) "useless" after seeing them outmanoeuvre the EU in such a comprehensive manner will be amusing to observe.

I must be frank; my opinion of Boris is rising.

Well, there has been no firm date set for meeting von der Leyen to see what's next.

The EU summit starts Thursday through to Friday and its this where the EU hope to ratify the "deal", which is why I said 2 days.

Therefore he has until tomorrow evening at the very latest to meet with Uschi VDL. How about doing PMQ's tomorrow then leaving for St Pancras to catch a Eurostar to Brussels? He should get to the EU's place by 5pm local time at the latest, which will give them a couple of hours for a chin wag before the moules frittes are served.
