My Day Out

On the first day of my stay at Girloch I decided to drive up the coast toward Melvaig, just to see what was there.

I had to turn off onto a B road that hugged the coast through several small hamlets until I arrived at Melvaig.

A pleasant seaside village is the best way to describe this small community.
According to the map the road stopped at Melvaig, but I did notice a single track road with passing places, so I decided to go for it.

The weather was dry, sunny, with a lot of sea fog blowing inland.

When the sun did shine there were some fine views to be had.

Well I expected narrow and a lot of hair pin bends and I wasn't disappointed.

I had a few weak bridges thrown in as well.

There were three weak bridges to cross which spanned small ravines and were just wide enough for my car............God only knows how the campervan drivers managed.

So I eventually reached the end of the road after several miles, (no exaggeration), to find a delightfully and pristinely decorated lighthouse.

Apparently, Rua Reidh Lighthouse has been de-commissioned and is now somebody's family home - but what a home and location.

They have a small private beach where rocky headlands abound.

When the lighthouse was working the only access was by sea to a small jetty and it wasn't until 1960 that the road was built.

The return journey was ...............interesting.

Lovely atmospheric pictures, PooBear....very envious of the Lighthouse home *sigh* that would be my dream too. Mind you, it would be chaos in Winter

My guess would be that Melvaig is there.

What did I tell you? My intuition is seldom wrong.
