Considering we leave so much half eaten food lying around we should think ourselves lucky they are around to clean up after us. They are always on refuse tips too.

Re: Are Seagulls a menace ?

Seagulls are a nuisance here along with pigeons. I have given up putting out seed and fat balls for the little birds as the pigeons walk up and down under the trees waiting for bits to fall on the ground, then the seagulls swoop down to beat them to it.

We also have a lot of magpies too.

We have two types of pigeons here, the big fat wood pigeons are lovely, not quite so keen on their thinner town cousins who make such a mess in town, but I prefer the mess to the various ideas they have implemented to stop them which make building look awful.

I live about 200 yards from the sea. Live and let live. Any bad habits seagulls have acquired are because of us, litter, food, rubbish etc. which we leave around. They have come to enjoy our food. Being shat on is pure bad luck, after all they are birds.

Well I'm not guilty of that - but it 'is' the point and it is the fault of humans ..........

Re: Are Seagulls a menace ?

I saw something quite surprising in yesterdays paper.
In a park near Leicester, firemen had to use an inflatable raft to rescue a seagull that had frozen onto the lake! Never heard of that before.
I wondered if the bird was ill or something, because I am surprised he just sat there and let it happen otherwise.
Anyway, they rescued him and handed him into the RSPCA apparently.
