Lightbulbs. Halogen, LED, but a windup torch seems easier.

Goodbye my old friend Edison, forever now relegated to be a vintage filament in the celestial sky.

At long last my stock of old stashed Edisons are running low.
Faced with the prospect of buying new bulbs it seems to be a bit of a minefield. Right Mensa stuff and I'm glad there are sites explaining it to Dummies. Moi.

Which are best?
These horrible ugly sticks that look like sabre sticks from Star Wars.
Halogens? .. Is it true they overheat? Is it true the EU might be going to ban them?
LED's ... I fell off my chair when I saw what they cost.

What does everyone here use and prefer?
A Davy lamp is starting to look appealing.

I'm finding it difficult these days to find a supplier of gas mantles.

Led's are the way forward but your local pound shop has good stocks of incandescent filament light bulbs.

You can buy traditional lamps, but they are "industrial" rated

Last year, I had seven halogen lights in the kitchen and utility room. Seven time 50W equals 350W. I substituted seven LED 5W white, and now the power consumption is 35W when switched. Google for suppliers?

For a standard Edison lampholder, the compact fluorescent type that looks like a Mr Whippy ice-cream are better than the god-awful stick kind they used to give away free. They're instant on, no going to make a cup of tea while you wait for them to brighten up. Go for around at least 11W
