The Journey
The days I spent in youth adorned
Gave countless pathways dusk to dawn
I climbed all mountains higher; higher
Ignored all those who would enquire
But then the ‘boys’ took off and left
My loneliness left me bereft
Then courtship offered swift respite
Somewhere to rest my head at night
And then they said you’re in mainstream
New ‘bubs’ coming; what a scream!
Change the naps; bottle feeds
Sleepless nights; nightmares for dreams
And then they’ve gone; well almost now
Peace descended ;holy cow!
w/end visits can occur
cheque book hidden, do beware
And just when new mountains beckon
Grandkids burst upon our senses
Give me; give me; give me more
Peace when they’ve been shown the door
The days I spend in age adorn
Give countless pathways dusk to dawn
We’re climbing mountains not quite so high
But can still ignore those who just pass by
