As always an engrossing article.

Any nation impudent enough to object and quit, as we did by majority public vote four years ago, has to be made an example of. Our problem is simple. If we acceded to the EU demands, which are actually the French demands, we revert to subservience to Brussels and the eternally obedient European Court.

Then we might as well never have voted. Which is what great slices of our own Establishment also wishes.

Our leaving will be a calamity for the EU.
Here's one example of why.

'Banks warn EU of disruption in derivatives markets in January'

"Financial markets will be disrupted in January unless the European Union allows the bloc’s investors to use derivatives trading platforms in London, a group of seven financial industry bodies have said."

John Redwood, MP. spells it out perfectly for me why being a member of the EU has been an absolute calamity...

I agree. I have always said that our real enemy is France, rather than any of the other EU countries.

They have been our arch enemy for centuries, except for two short periods in the 20th Century - when they desperately needed our help, the cowards.

I sometimes think we shouldn't have bothered and just made a non-aggression pact with Hitler!

I completely agree.

However, this is something not entirely of the making of the EU. Treason May is as responsible as anyone, yet she still has the nerve to sit in the Commons.
Then there was Cameron the coward.

Apart from the Loonies, Brown and BLiar, of whom one would expect nothing good, there was also Major who really started the rot by signing us up to 'agreements' with the EU without even asking the electorate.

In short, we have been very badly led by PMs ever since Maggie Thatcher.

Boris seems to have reversed the trend at last, thank God.

Hi

I have a very different view of things.

I did not share her political views,

I did however admire her for her skill and ability to put Britain first and defend us against the ever encroaching EU.

She was a fan of the single market and the advantages it offerred, she was instrumental in setting it up in it's current form.

She did not however take any flak from the EU Integration stuff, she got us loads of exemptions , all to our benefit.

Yes, we have been let down ever since, but it was the Tories who dumped her.

All who followed were not in the same league.

We should never of been in this position of having to leave the EU,

It isour fault what we have let France and Germany rule the roost.

A complete nonsense, we should have been up there but our Politicians, both Tory and Labour where too lazy to make sure we were.

My reasons for leaving where very simple.

I do not want any further integration.

I also want to reverse some of the things we had agreed to.

I was happy with the Norway Model keep the Customs Union and Single Market but dump the political integration rubbish.

Many will disagree with me, but I am who I am.

Please, let's have a firm decision and not keep stretching it out uneccesarily.

Ho hum.
A joint statement:
"

We had a useful phone call this morning. We discussed the major unresolved topics.

Our negotiating teams have been working day and night over recent days.

And despite the exhaustion after almost a year of negotiations, despite the fact that deadlines have been missed over and over we think it is responsible at this point to go the extra mile.

We have accordingly mandated our negotiators to continue the talks and to see whether an agreement can even at this late stage be reached."

In reality it means that neither side wants to be first to say no deal.
I said before that we(the UK) don't need to.
We can just let the clock run down.
Then the EU look bad for being bullies, if their current stance persists.

But how disappointing this is.
