New Covid variant from Antigua found in UK after two people return from Caribbean

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-new...tigua-23683907

A new Covid variant from Antigua has been found in the UK after two people returned from the Caribbean.

Public Health England (PHE) said the strain shares some traits of other variants but would not be categorised as concerning for now.

The health authority said today the variant, known as VUI-202103/01 (lineage B.1.324.1) was designated a variant under investigation
on March 4.

The two cases were found in the South East of England.

"The variant contains the spike mutations E484K and N501Y, both usually associated with Variants of Concern (VOC), however it does not feature specific deletions that would lead to a designation as a VOC," PHE said in a statement.
Not serious ..... yet.

Not serious ..... yet.
It becomes much more serious if illegals are not being found & checked.

The PTB need to stop people coming here without being tested where they already are.

Perhaps they live here and are returning home as opposed to “ coming here” ?

They still should be tested before they want to get here. In fact I thought they were being tested.

This is what it says on the Gov site re Brazil
Returning to the UK
When you return, you must follow the rules for entering the UK.

You are responsible for organising your own COVID-19 test, in line with UK government testing requirements. The Brazilian government has stated that the public health system should not be used for pre-departure tests. Travellers should obtain a test from a private provider.

Does that look like it’s the airline’s at fault for not checking ?
