Last leg for the Lakeside.

Just an update on my visit to the Lakeside. My last visit was on May 20, that is when i became unwell and ive not been back since.

It was a sad visit as i found the younger pair of Great crested grebes had deserted their second nest, reason unknown, but at the time the weather was very cold.

The actual nest i photographed.

To get the images, i sat in a small woodland and set up my scope, then using a small compact 4 MP camera with 3 x zoom usually only using it at 1.5 x zoom through the eyepiece of the scope.

It turns out they had one more attempt to breed while i was in hospital which also failed. Its the first time since ive been following these attractive birds that there has been no young raised. Very sad as the site is very important for these photogenic birds.

This Swallow sat in a branch above me, nearly did myself an injury trying to alter the scope to get on it, it was far too close for a decent photo.

A surprise visitor was this Goosander, we get a few on here during the winter months, but to see one in late Spring was unusual.

Not a great photo but i like the colours reflected in the water, appeals to my artistic side.

So that may be my last Grebe photos, with both my laptop and camera exhibiting signs of impending failure, cant complain both have served me well over the years.

What beautiful birds - I hope they manage to breed again next year. Wonder what went wrong this time.

I think I've only seen Grebes once this year, they seem to be in short supply around here.

Weather, dogs, so called photographers that get too close, and ive even heard Otters have been seen on the lake.
Cant rule out egg collectors, still has a hold in the North East.
