Re: Hi from oop north

what area of nursing are you in, and do you answer health related problems online cos I have loads hahaha (j/k)

Hi Paul matey, welcome to the forum and also welcome to the club. I'm in the throes of being surgically replaced with bionic bits and pieces - already have metal hips and knees, surgeons will be chatting to me later this year about metal ankle joints and I also need a new pair of lungs too.

Hi Uncle Joe, the original bionic man by the sounds of it. Was the replacing of your joints as a result of a job you used to do or a disease?

Hi Paul matey, yes it was a disease (Arthritis) but it could have been related to past work as I used to be in Merchant Navy and got very wet on many occasions.

Re: Hi from oop north

Ahhh I know all about Arthritis. My last ex wife was a clinical nurse specialist in rheumatology. she ran the clinics over in Bradford. She used to practice joint injections on me. The hip one is particularly painful. I have the start of arthritis in my knuckle joints. I'm told it's as a result of using so many high speed power tools over the years. The vibrations have damaged the lining of my joints. About once a year I go for cortisone injections. They are only painful in cold weather so I wear gloves a lot in the winter.

Oh matey, yes I know all about Cortizone injections - had two on my hip before they decided to replace it entirely. Was in hospital over last Xmas having hip replaced a second time - 'cos its a metal-on-metal joint and was rubbing and leeching chromium into my blood stream.

It's amazing what they can do nowadays with replacement joints. It's one area of medicine that has come on leaps and bounds in recent years.

True, but consider, go back less than your lifetime and you would be spending your remaining years in a wheelchair.
