Another NHS Scandal

Hi

Yet another example of the incompetence of the NHS.

A man who has inflicted enormous harm on women.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ngham-39753498

There will always be problems in any large organisation, these things happen.

The issue here is once again a massive coverup by Management.

Hundreds more suffered because of Management Refusal to take effective action.

None of the Managers will suffer, the vast amounts of compensation will be paid by the NHS, in other words, me and you and especially the poor sods still waiting for treatment.

This wrong, very wrong.

The only way to change this is to dismiss all the Managers involved for Gross Professional Misconduct, no compensation, no pay offs and they lose their Pension Rights.

That will concentrate the minds of other Managers in their comfy little lives.

This can be done, it has been done, in other parts of Government.

Why is the NHS so special?

As I understood it, he worked mainly in two Private Hospitals, in which control procedures were less stringent than within the NHS.

I heard on the news last night that he worked in private hospitals, but then ventured into some NHS patients too.

Most people think they are doing the right thing at the time, when they 'go private' but it seems it is the consultant's knowledge and morals which are most important, not whether he is 'private' or not.
Wicked old money-grabbing sod. Pity the women involved can't be left to deal with him.

As you said Swimmy, the managers involved should definitely be given the push as well, partly for their own participation (or lack of), and also as an example to others who don't do their jobs.

Re: Another NHS Scandal

This is shocking because he was so trusted by the women he saw. He was described by one of his patients as being a lovely person they trusted completely. He is also described as a controlling bully. So the combination of the charm and bullying that is classic in the narcissist. His charismatic personality reminds me of the Jimmy Saville case. Such people are far too easily able to gain power and then control their little empire with others afraid to question what they do.

The NHS has apparently paid out £10m in compensation to 250 patients, which is an appalling waste of money for something that should never have happened had proper controls been in place. But at least these mutilated patients have had some redress. But it's so disappointing that hundreds of private patients will never receive compensation because Spire were not employing him directly and the insurance arrangements in place to safeguard patients had been withdrawn. The private healthcare sector is a minefield of legal holes which patients are not made aware of. There is no safety net and despite the CQC monitoring some areas, they don't cover what they interpret as cosmetic procedures. But in such a contractual arrangement they can't hold Spire liable. They should be.

Hopefully this will make any private patient think twice before undergoing any procedure and to seek second opinions for any diagnosis requiring a surgical procedure. There are inadequate fallback arrangements in the private healthcare sector. The contract situation where surgeons use the facade of the healthcare organisation but have their own private business arrangement must be changed. The private hospital should be liable for anything that goes under the banner of their brand.
