Re: Civility, romance, and all the niceties...

Can we ever return to social restraint and respect?
I do think it’s up to woman in many ways .
We tolerate too much
We are the major influence in a child’s early years .
However in this world where so many fathers are absent we can’t do everything
My father was a gentleman my husband is too.
My sons are the same .
Only by good example can boys and girls learn what is right .
Unfortunately social media like the internet makes it easy for people to act in a way that is unacceptable without consequences.

Re: Civility, romance, and all the niceties...

To continue on this theme I am getting heartily sick of telling people off.
Why do it you may ask ?
Because sometimes it’s the right thing to do people NEED to be told !
Not young people but ones who should know better.
In all this time I have found young people to be polite kind and keen to do good .
Not always so with their parents and sad to say their grandparents ( my own generation)
The CV has brought out the best and worst in people .
Selfishness and bad manners abound .
There are some great people of all ages .
From captain Sir Tom to young people working in care homes.
Unfortunately then we have the rest.
The heedless mobs that walk our streets in defiance of the health risks.
The litter louts Who think cleaning up after themselves is someone elses job
The rude people in supermarkets .
The list can go on and on.

I'm not casting aspersions but, being crude and losing some shall we say, "personal" inhibitions, can be a symptom of dementia.

As for young people behaving badly, we have to remember that our generation taught their parents how to bring them up. Things have been let slide in parenting skills and social education.

I suppose I am sentimental, but I am really heartbroken for the younger generations who are not just isolated, but are missing out the pleasures that come with respect, self-respect, and the Golden Rule.
I think it is all about respect... for ourselves and each other and some of that is down to what we as parents pass on to our children the rest is learnt from society .

The school my grandchildren attend focuses very much on kindness and respect where good examples of this behavior are written down and read out to the children so they learn what is good behavior.
