International Travel Restarts (Slowly)

Today the first plane from New Zealand lands at Sydney Airport carrying Kiwis who will not have to isolate for two weeks after arrival.

The Australia/NZ bubble is tentatively opened but it is not a reciprical arrangement yet. ie Australians cannot fly to New Zealand.

Flights from NT have also commenced into Sydney without a quarentine requirement - There hasn't been a case of Covid in the NT for months.

Meanwhile our PM , Scotty from Marketing, has been stuck in Queensland. Discussions between premiers and the Prime Minister about bringing thousands of stranded Australians home will have to wait, after Friday's National Cabinet meeting was postponed on Thursday night.

A one-line statement from the Prime Minister's Office confirmed the postponement and revealed it was "due to some technical problems that have prevented the Prime Minister's return to Sydney".

Viruses are immune to continental behaviour. Probably.

Re: International Travel Restarts (Slowly)

A slight glitch in International travel plans when newly arrived Kiwis travelled by domestic flight from Sydney to Melbourne.

Seventeen passengers from New Zealand who travelled to Sydney under the trans-Tasman bubble arrangements have been caught entering Melbourne.

The passengers flew to Sydney and got a connecting flight to Melbourne.

Melbourne is currently not accepting international travellers.

Quarantine-free travel between New Zealand and Australia is currently limited to New South Wales and the Northern Territory

Initially it was reported that 14 passengers were detained in Melbourne.

But overnight Victoria's Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) confirmed there were 17 passengers, and that the department "does not have legal authority to detain the travellers on arrival".

"Victoria has not agreed to a travel bubble arrangement with New Zealand and did not expect to receive international travellers as a result of NSW making that arrangement," DHHS said in a statement.
