To be honest they actually taste more like red meat rather than a bird. Many many decades ago I was a telephone linesman out in the bush, we lived off the land (to save money) and because there were often no motels for 100s of ks. There weren't the animal protection laws then either. I think the first emu I ate was actually one we hit with the Land Cruiser - they don't have any road sense - however we mostly ate kangaroo. (There is a reason I have a bull bar on the front of my car)

At least they have a decent amount of meat on them, I remember my mother cooking pigeon when I was a child in the UK.

Goodness! ..... and I thought you were joking.

As you say it's meat like any other and you need to feed yourself.

You'd have a job getting one of those in the oven!

I don't think there are many animals that I have failed with but there are some, we shot a fox once but it was disgusting, it even smelt foul when cooking (over a fire), absolutely inedible - perhaps because it is a meat eater?. Thank goodness we didn't put it is the camp oven. Oscar Wilde was completely right about that.

In Cambodia I bought deep fried grasshoppers and cockroaches from a road side stall but in the end I couldn't bring myself to try them.
