I camped there for three days in the 1950s, it smelt ok then!
But l did wonder where the sewage went?
Donkeyman!
Right into the canals of course. When it has rained, sitting by the waterside, you see the human waste float by.
Normally it sinks to the bottom and is broken down by microbes within hours. However, better not swim in the canals.
It's tilting and sinking anyway isn't it?
Have they figured out how to stop it yet.
It is afterall only a collection of over 100 little islands with bridges and canals between them, I think, I could be wrong.
Looks a lovely place for atmosphere, great in that Donald Sutherland film 'Don't Look Now'... but also damn dirty looking at low tide, like now.
It's a place I'd like to go, if only once.
I didn't notice him, only Julie Christie...... funny that!
The (brief) story is now on the BBC website but the contents are almost identical to the Sky website - no-one else seems to be making a comment so is this "story" just a syndicated article rather than "news" .....
