Paying until 2064

Hammond has said in his Spring statement that we will be paying for Brexit until 2064. The kids future prospects taken care of then??? That's without figuring in the other debts this country has and also assuming we don't have any unscheduled priorities to fund, e.g. a war. Problem is, I think, that people cannot get their heads around these huge figures like 34Bn. Therefore, there is a bit of an ostrich/head/sand attitude about it. We will never get our heads above water again IMO.
If some folks on this forum are not in despair and angry at this prospect as I am and know different please speak up. I did notice that economic growth has been revised up, but I don't see how this can make much difference in balancing out what we owe. However, I am not an expert.

You should never believe half of what a politician says . They have to make rash statements to justify their position in government

Re: Paying until 2064

I understood some time ago that we would have to continue to contribute a small amount of money for many years to come to cover items like a pension scheme so no surprise there and I don't see it as a problem.

We are merely fulfilling our obligations, a small price to pay for not having the overbearing EU dictating to us and telling us how we should spend our money.
Think how much money we would have had to pay into the EU over those years had we not left, money we will now have control over ourselves.

Hi

We have made forward Commitments, these need to be honoured.

In the same vein we have borrowed long term from the EU.

It is no great shakes, it works both ways.

We will be getting back our share of the EU Investment Bank.

That huge figure you mention is , in fact, miniscule in relation to GDP over 40 ish years .

A tiny sum of money well spent!
