My Bedlingtons

Each year, the KC carries out a survey of new puppy registrations for each breed. They then reveal which British dog breeds have low numbers of regs and will then be termed 'Vulnerable' breeds, usually for that a breed which has less than 300 puppies registered.
Then they have a second list - the 'At Watch' list - and this consists of the breeds who are tumbling towards this 300 figure.

'Vulnerable' breeds are Bloodhounds, Otterhounds and Corgis, amongst others.

One breed on the 'At Watch' list after the 2015 count were . . . . Bedlington Terriers with just 395 puppies registered for the whole of that year.

So you all need to buy a Bedlington now, to stop them becoming extinct.

That's a pity Abbey, you could perhaps swap him for a 5th one?

Sadly two on that list we wanted but the prices were astronomical, unless breeders bring them down they are not going to have a thriving breed IMO.

Trouble is Julie, it's a vicious circle. The rarer the breed, the more the breeders will charge.

I understand that but unless they see it differently they will preside over the end of some beautiful breeds.

Re: My Bedlingtons

The Bedlingtons I have seen for sale ( KC reg and health tested parents )
were not nearly so expensive as the " designer crossbreeds "

Oi, I'm getting fed up with you being 'orrible to me this week young man.
According to you, I'm a nosey mare, brain dead and now a nasty southerner!

Now then, some kind words and a bunch of flowers would be nice.
