Fold over Sandwich?

Did anyone else have sandwiches as children that were not cut in half, but simply folded over!

Not even sure why, but that was always the making of a child's sandwich. (Think it tasted nicer too)!!

Don't think they do now.

Re: Fold over Sandwich?

I remember the fold-over sandwiches from childhood days but it was only with jam sandwiches ...... any savoury sandwiches were cut in half the posh way!

Re: Fold over Sandwich?

I remember them to, in fact, occasionally I do lapse back into childhood and fold sandwiches now, especially cheese ones-stops the cheese falling out! Course if I make a sandwich for anyone else, I cut the sandwiches into four and place orderly on a plate-wouldn't like to give the impression that I was common, even if I am with my own!!!!!!!!!

Re: Fold over Sandwich?

Hi Mags & Merz, Yes, it was mainly the jam sandwiches, I had forgotten that!

I think also fishpaste sandwiches - Yuk! But seemed to enjoy them at the time.

Funny how cutting in half is not appropriate, but cutting across at an angle is 'proper'!!!

Dare I share? ............ As children if the tea/coffee was hot we would pour into the saucer and drink. Do you know it actually tasted NICER!!

Re: Fold over Sandwich?

A fold over sandwich was what I made for myself as a child when I was hungry but keen to get out - anything in it would do, as long as I got out of the house quick enough - before my mum said I couldn't go. It was usually eaten on the run.

Re: Fold over Sandwich?

Cutting a butty is posh.

And not cutting a butty stops the filling falling out of the middle.

Re: Fold over Sandwich?

My mum always folded the sandwich over if it was jam or sugar..........it stopped the filling falling out. We didn't have posh sandwiches.

Re: Fold over Sandwich?

I remember having these too and to be honest only yesterday I succumbed to a crisp sandwich and fold over was the only way to do them! I agree that they taste better and also that these threads are just brilliant........... Keep them coming - I love them.
