Re: How to prepare ceps mushrooms?

Thanks for the tip mrmojorisin. I love the forest in autumn and spend ages photographing all sorts of fungi, but that ceps in the photo is the first one that I've ever had the courage to pick with the intention of eating, as I am terrified of getting it wrong and poisoning us all, and I cannot see that changing anytime soon!

Re: How to prepare ceps mushrooms?

Actually it's a myth. There are more poisonous green plants than fungi. There's a very few of course that are deadly which are easy to spot like Death Caps and Destroying Angels, and actually quite rare in my experience. Of the rest some are inedible and taste horrible and there are one or two that'll give you a belly ache but won't kill you. It's worth the effort to learn which to avoid as there are so many that are sooooo delicious!

I'll take your word on that, but I've had the book for years and still haven't the courage to pick wild fungii. Too late now methinks, I'll continue to play it safe and stick with the huge flat ones from the supermarket.

Local walks with an expert are available in some areas. You only need to see once and you remember forever (well almost forever)

Another way, grow them youself. Paul Stamets is the mushroom master Guru, he's written loads of books
