For high heat cooking/frying you really need to be selecting an oil with smoke point of 240 deg C or higher, otherwise you risk creating carcinogenic substances with the oil.

I generally use Rice Bran oil for all such cooking. I use coconut oil for baking muffins and the like.

Wow that's really useful Realist, thanks for that

Re: Olive oil

I can confirm that the recipe of pasta swirled in some garlic, rosemary fried in olive oil and grated cheese (I used some gruyere that was in the fridge from some recipe), was yummy. Also added some sliced and fried portabello mushroom. You won't be hungry for the rest of the day. I was thinking of adding some grated zest of lemon next time.

Re: Olive oil

Yes I use it a lot. It’s used to cook with and to make vinegarettes for salads, plus for pasta dishes.
I also use coconut oil and avocado oil
Sometimes use it on my hair but prefer coconut oil.

Re: Olive oil

At home we have Olive Oil, Sesame, Sunflower, butter.

For roasting: Sunflower

Scrambled eggs, sauce roux: Sunflower mixed with butter.

Sesame & Olive generally get applied after the food's cooked.

However, about once/week we have a fresh fish steak, shallow fried in olive oil. It doesn't reach anywhere near smoke point.

That's interesting. EV Olive oil is quite low on the list which explains why sometimes when I take my roasties out of the oven my kitchen resembles that film, The Fog.

Re: Olive oil

I don't use any oil for cooking.... and I only use olive oil for softening the wax in my ears.
