Gasman, you said about the light not being so good for the short eared owl, but I love that one. The light makes the marking sort of 'glow.'

Another situation with not very good light, but using flash would have upset this baby wol........

Mine's only quite a basic camera, plus it was during an indoor talk on raptors, plus there were members of the audience in the way so I had to max my zoom, plus we were asked not to use flash, plus I just point and shoot.....I don't really know much about cameras!

That is what I do, point & shoot. I don't know much about what my camera can do either, it is pretty basic, though it could do more than I use it for.

Thanks for the pictures Gasman, I thought all of them were stunning. I would be very happy to be able to take photographs as good as that. Sadly I don't think my camera would ever achieve it or my inexperience of course.

Owls have always been wols, ever since Winnie the Pooh. The Owl always spelled owl as wol, and his home had a sign outside reading "wol".

I can't find a picture.

Wol just seems more appropriate, somehow!
