Sports Women and Trolls

Personally I don't give a flying F about sport but even I was somewhat shocked about the treatment this athlete received.

One of our TV companies (Channel 7AFL) published this picture of Tayla Harris an AFLW (Aussie Rules) star player on its web site.

It received some vile sexist and/or misogynist comments and the channel removed the photo. A short while later they realised what they had done, reinstated the photo and instead moderated the comments - the thing they should have done in the first place.

Why are women athletes (and some men) targeted in this way? She said it amounted to sexual abuse.

It's an excellent picture. The uncropped photo looks even better when you see she's in mid air.
There's a lot of pathetic no-hopers sitting behind keyboards.

It's a shame those cowardly keyboard warriors wouldn't dare tell her those things to her face. She could really use that flying kick on them and knock their teeth out. They wouldn't say anything again.

People seem confused and assume free speech means they can say what they want, they don't seem to think it comes with responsibility and they should unless they have something nice to say just shut up and fester in their own vile world. Leave the marvelous women and men who are actually doing something alone.

According to the 7.30 Report this evening it was suggested that the photo above will become an iconic sports shot like these:

Comments on any website should only be made by people who leave some kind of identification and then could be prosecuted under existing laws for verbal abuse in the same way that they would be prosecuted if they were to comment verbal abuse in public.
