Bird Bath

I did the birds a favour and bought them a bird bath.

Primarily, I wanted to stop the birds drinking and bathing in the tadpole containers as both containers still have tadpoles wriggling about. (After having the pond removed).

Secondly, even though this bath isn't my style, I thought it would be a nice treat for the the birds to have a drink and wash in clean water instead of the dirty pond water in the containers.

So I put it on the path about 6" away from the containers which are sunk into the soil.

You can't miss the thing. It's bum height and has a small fake bird sitting on the edge.

So what do the birds do? Continue to go to the containers.

Maybe they expect a bar of soap and a towel to be provided before they do their ablutions. Well, they can dream on.

Re: Bird Bath

I'm sure they will find it in the end Pesta. You could try putting some bird seed around it to entice them. Drinking out of the tadpole containers can't be nice for them...

...they could end up with a frog in the throat.

Another thing you could try is filling with rain water as opposed to tap water.

It rained this evening so that's sorted

It's strange how the birds home in on the dirty pond water,. Well, it's more gross than strange. Shivers.

Re: Bird Bath

Last summer in all the heat I felt sorry for the birds, I went raking in the greenhouse looking for the biggest saucer base for a flower pot I had, I found one about 14ins across. I cleaned it up and filled it with water then put it near their food stand. It didn't take long before they were splashing away in twos n threes having a grand time. I had to give them clean water every day as they messed it up pretty quickly. Hopefully I will have to do it again before much longer.

My cats are the same. They have clean water daily in a pet fountain but they would prefer to drink out of a dirty rain puddle.

It's lovely when they do that isn't it? At the other house there was a stone one in the garden and they had a ball in there.

Last year in the heat, I did put a flower pot saucer full of water on the grass... then when I went to refresh the water there was a tiny, tiny froglet dead in it
