Any Good, Free & Compatible Alternatives To Microsoft Word?

I'm sure I've heard of one before but can't remember what it's called.

Can anyone help me out?

Re: Any Good, Free & Compatible Alternatives To Microsoft Word?

Libre Office and Open Office are good free (unless you care to make a donation) alternatives to Microsoft Office. There can be problems with opening some documents created in Microsoft Office that have tables in them and saved in Microsoft Office's native format of 'docx'.

Similarly, some documents created in another Office program may not look quite right when opened in Microsoft Office. However I use Libre Office and haven't come across any instances of this being a problem.

I'm not sure how well Open Office copes with this aspect and perhaps others will comment. For me, Libre Office is good and so that's the one I'd recommend.

I wonder what happened to 'Word perfect'. That's what I used to use.

I've used Open Office for a good few years with no problems, it does everything I want, worth a look I would say.

Re: Any Good, Free & Compatible Alternatives To Microsoft Word?

I have Libre Office Suite on my laptop recommended by JBR, I believe, in another life. I find it really easy to use - certainly as good as Microsoft Works. So far it has been compatible with documents imported/downloaded from my PC - which uses Microsoft Office - on both word processing and spreadsheet format
