Oh yes what a great man Hammer, and Charles Lawton and many more old actors. The trouble is we are of another generation.The actor I mean was in a film called Odd man Out, do you remember him Hammer, make an old girl happy.

Yes Annie, I think Newtons best film was playing Frank Gibbons in the lead of 'This Happy Breed' with Celia Johnson.

I think Lawton was superb in 'Hobsons Choice' but then so were all the cast in that one.

I was looking forwards to this adaptation but found myself disappointed as it didn't seem to have much substance.
The first of the three episodes wasn't too bad as an introduction but it went down hill after that.

I enjoyed it, but as I haven't seen any previous films/tv adaptations and it is so many years since I read the book that I scarcely remember the story, I was indeed seeing it with 'fresh eyes'. Maybe that made all the difference.

Annie, this was and still is one of my favourite ladies and she appeared in the 1946 version of GE.

That was one of the problems with it, to have any meaning he was supposed to be a rough outdoor living forge hand, not the village fop as this tulip was.
