Assman, the floods have been and gone.
As falls from the recent big wet snake their way through the river system, children at Brewarrina are pulling fish from the river with their hands and towns are celebrating in domino succession.
The water that ran past the banks of the Namoi and Barwon rivers in the north of the state in early February sluiced through Walgett, the town where the two rivers meet but which has been carting water in since last year, and brought relief to Mungindi, which became entirely dependent on bore water in December.
Last weekend it received a hero's welcome in Brewarrina.
It is expected to reach Bourke this weekend, Tilpa in the first week of March, Wilcannia in the third week of March and Lake Wetherell between March 18 and 26.
