Lokrum Island - Croatia
Lokrum Island is a nature park with exotic tropical and subtropical plants and a unique botanical garden which is still being worked on. There are no vehicles on the island so it's like a peaceful haven...... It is criss-crossed by shady tracks overhung by palms and pine trees.The island is said to be where Richard the Lionheart became shipwrecked on his route home from the Crusades in 1190.
Lockrum has families of high pitched screeching peacocks inhabiting the island, also tortoises are wandering freely throughout, so you have to keep your eyes on the ground as it would be so easy to step on one.

The sound of the peacocks could be heard all around the island ...
The peahens stayed on the ground, most were guarding their young, which we called 'pea-lings'

We had to watch where we walked as tortoises were almost underfoot!
The Botanical Garden had a wonderful display of palms, cacti etc.....
I wish we could have made more visits to this island, it was so relaxing!
