Re: Collections: Valuing, Buying and Selling

Okay just to conclude the purpose of this thread, the sale of my albums.

I mentioned that I would be happy with £200 although I never thought I would get it. Not for about 40 albums plus some, in the buyer's words 'near mediocre and virtually un-sellable' 12" singles and a batch of random 7"-ers. I went away yesterday thinking my valuations (and hopes) were rather optimistic.

Well, I went to see him this morning and he asked me what I wanted for the whole lot, he'd take it all off my hands.
I almost said on the tip of my tongue too, that I'd take £100 or thereabouts and I'd be pleased with that but at the same time thinking he would laugh at me, but something told me to say "Well you're the dealer, you've looked through them, what do you think?'.

"Will three to three-fifty be okay?" - My eyes nearly popped out of my head and coolly I said "Er, yeah great!" and he peeled off £350 worth of twenties and we shook hands!!
I left the shop shaking

Some things do go right in life!

I buy stuff to add value, then spend hours adding value but, then get attached.

I know exactly where you are coming from bud (I think).
But sometimes you just have to let things go. After thirty years stuck on a shelf gathering dust and without me going to play these anymore, they had to go.
It was so difficult going through them all last week pricing them up and nostalgia set in deeply, but instinct won out in the end. It wasn't so much the lure of cash, just a need to get rid

I kept five records:
The first single I ever bought
The first album I ever bought
An LP because I like the cover
My favourite all-time album
The record I want playing at my funeral.
