The price of Postage stamps to increase.

The price of a 1st Class stamp is to increase by 5p to 46p and 2nd class stamps will increase by 4p to 36p ....

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/...p-rises-to-46p

The increases will come into force next April.

Re: The price of Postage stamps to increase.

I can remember a lot earlier than that Azz ....... and no, not as far back as the Penny Black!!!

It used to be 4d (old money) in the '50s, that would be under 2p today.

I feel sure a lot of people will now be cutting down on their Christmas card list ..... such a shame as I think it's still nice to receive a Christmas card through the letterbox.

I hear the Royal Mail is likely to be sold off to a foreign buyer, how long before we will not longer have a Saturday delivery, or even different postal rates depending on distance?

Re: The price of Postage stamps to increase.

I remember in 1952 stamps cost 2 pence(old money) less than 1 p of todays money, a book of 12 stamps used to cost the equivalent of 28.8 pence in todays money.

If people do not fully use something the cost of using it rises, eventually due to Emails/Texting there will be no postal service.

Use it or Lose it folks.

Blame Decimalisation, when they introduced that the cost of living doubled overnight.

We have always done that Mags, just buy a book of first class stamps with no price on them.
