LOL This thread is full of "I remember when" statements that quickly jog the memory to a younger time. As a young lad I used to collect postage stamps from around the world and carefully attach them to albums from different countries. My parents were born and raised in Germany and wrote stacks of letters to the old country. Their friends and relatives would reply with letters so I kept all their stamps from Germany. I remember one stamp in particular that was known as a "death" stamp, published only on the day of a leader's death. I had a Hitler death stamp that had a black border around his image. It was considered very rare.That being said I rarely need to use stamps anymore as the internet and UPS have taken over those duties. Email and online banking have allowed me to pay all my bills instantly without the need for paper at all. Now I get online statements for utilities and rent. I still write one check a month for rent as they want to charge me to do it electronically and I'm still fit enough to walk to the management office & hand them my paper check.
Thankfully I have darn few bills these days as I've cut my expenses to the bone. I have no monthly phone bill since I use a pay as you go cellphone. There's word of the power companies raising their rates after the end of this year by some 20-30% that has folks up in arms. Soon I'll have to give up eating.

The increases will come into force next April.
