A good effect

It's a while since I played with Xara so much but I blame it on staying at home.

I don't know when the effect shown below might be used but the cleverness of the program in what it can do just impresses me. I've made brushes out of shapes I've drawn before but just came up with the idea of using an ornament I own because of the colours in it. Anyway, for what it's worth..

Brilliant, you should change your name to Arty Marty. Love it.

Neat idea mart

I'm a paint.net fan, I've tried writing freehand (with mouse) before and the result is always rubbish. It never occurred to me to type it first then go over it on a new layer ... like tracing but without making it look like another font.

Re: A good effect

I tried writing with a mouse and get the same results. Some people can write well using an electronic pen on a tablet and even draw pictures that way. My hand just goes all over the place though. A bit like when signing for goods on the doorstep on a touch-screen (before it was stopped due to the virus).

That text effect is all done on the same layer using Xara. I don't think there would be any end to the effects that could be done. It just depends on what shape or object is used to make the brush.

Two kinds of brush can be made. The one shown above is called an 'art brush' where the pattern is kind of smeared along the lines. It could have been made into a 'scatter brush' that keeps the shape of the object and repeats it along the lines, as shown below (different object used to make the brush)..
