Re: Climate change and OFGEN plan

But if people have no income. How can they afford to pay for all these new systems?

Did you notice the bit about district heating being provided by hydrogen gas produced at point of use by electrolysis of water?

Maybe loans against the equity in property or means tested grant for the really skint.

You and I are in a position where we can help the planet, but there are millions of people who's main concern is putting food on the table.

Electric storage heaters. Sorted.

Who pays? If your property loan against the equity in your property, if not - means tested grant no doubt.

Britain's energy regulator unveils plan to rip out gas central heating from EVERY home and put 10 million electric vehicles on the road within 10 years

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-10-years.html

Plans to put ten million electric vehicles on the road within ten years and rip gas central heating from every home are unveiled today.

Energy regulator Ofgem has outlined how the nation will have to change the way it travels and heats homes to meet the Government’s target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The radical scheme to ‘greenwire’ Britain will be built around plans for a four-fold increase in electricity from wind farms around the coast. But the proposals will largely be paid for by families and businesses, adding billions of pounds to bills over the next 30 years.

It is suggested that building and running the infrastructure to support the roll-out of electric vehicles could be £2billion a year, equivalent to £30 on every household bill.

And switching away from natural gas heating and hot water for homes and businesses will require spending as much as £20billion a year by 2050.
Ofgem envisages the number of electric vehicles will surge from 230,000 today to ten million by 2030 and 39million by 2050. It argues this will only be possible if the current total of 30,000 public car chargers rises to 210,000, plus 3,500 rapid and ultra-rapid chargers near motorways.

It'll never happen .....

The cost overruns on the quoted figures will be astronomical .....

No, probably not, but as I said, it will take decades, I doubt very few of us on here will be around to see it, these are just plans by people who don’t see the real world, ie, the massive costs involved not just in people’s homes but businesses who will pass the costs on, not all will be able to diversify and many will lose their jobs, which is ok if it doesn’t affect you, but when you have a mortgage and a couple of kids, then...? As with all major problems, the NHS, climate change, transport ect, it’s not just one size fits all solution, it’s many small little problems that interlink to form one huge nightmare that’s not easily solved

Re: Climate change and OFGEN plan

It ain't gonna happen within 10 years.

Look what happened with the changeover to Freeview ..
How many willingly dashed out and embraced that one?
Same with Smart meters.
People just don't have the money.
Look too how many dashed out and bought diesel cars .. and look at the poor so and so's now. Saddled with cars damned for their high pollutant emissions.

Not one of your better ideas Todger.
Though Ofgem would like it ....
But the proposals will largely be paid for by families and businesses, adding billions of pounds to bills over the next 30 years.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-10-years.html

If the goverment are so keen they should foot the bill , take it from the Foreign Aid budget as they'll reduce us all to paupers if we have to fork out for it .....
but aside from that can you imagine the mess and upheaval in all the households in the country?

Ten years is an impossible target.
Better sticking to new builds with solar panels with more self sufficient low carbon footprints, minus gas, even though it was sold to the public as a 'clean fuel'.
Meanwhile, anyone training to be a gas fitter, STOP! .. and open a scrapyard instead.

Car conversion to electric vehicles however might be the better route to take. whatever happened to those air cars we heard about years ago?
