Re: Old Trafford

Well we all know the outcome now.

I'm afraid that Australia have beaten us yet again. Even if we should win the last match at the Oval, they retain the Ashes.

They deserve it, of course. They have the best cricket team in the world, bar none, and have had for a very long time.

Mind you, as the Windies would testify, it isn't written in stone that that situation would continue for ever.

And we must remember that we won the cricket World Cup earlier this summer. Australia weren't even in the final!

Indeed you were, and it was as close a finish as anyone could have imagined.

Re: Old Trafford

I'm smiling. And..it may be an old and hackneyed saying but it still applies..Cricket itself has been the winner this series. It was a ripper. A relentless return to pride by Steve Smith, a poetic and (perhaps) justified hiding for David Warner (Although Smith had to - and did- cop the responsibility for it, it is the general zeitgeist that Warner was the driver behind sandpapergate) ; The amazing display of bowling by both sides, Ben Stokes' great fight and the gentlemanly and dignified captaincy of Joe Root. Looking forward to The Oval. Still some pride to be salvaged by England notwithstanding the loss of The Ashes.

I agree with everything you say here keezoy - it has been a fascinating series. We even had one of the Sky commentators, Bumble (David Lloyd) going around the ground asking for ideas on how to get Smith out!! all in good fun Every game has been played in true sportsmanship style. Well done the Aussies! Roll on Thursday!
