Pets or Humans?

Hi

A simple question.

Which is more important?

We are in lockdown, Hospital Cancer Appointments cancelled.

A lack of PPE and Social Distancing in Hospitals.

Our Vets are still open.

Where is the logic in that?

They are using PPE and spreading the infection

Denying our Nurses and Doctors the protection they need

Shut the Vets down and open the Dentists and Outpatients.

How are they spreading infection ?
Most of the time vets dont use PPE other than gloves ( apart from when they are operating )
Honestly people have got IMO paranoid yesterday my dog who is super friendly and loves children ran up to a group of kids wagging his tail .
Don’t touch him I heard one say he might have corona . FGS

I don't know where you get this info Swimmy, but it isn't like that here.

Cancer hospitals are having problems trying to get the patients to attend, for fear of catching the virus, and the same applies to patients with other serious health problems.

On 2 occasions since Easter my vet has dispensed medication to one of my cats, who is sick, and they do it by phone appointments, just as doctors do with humans. Where they feel that case is urgent and they need to see the animals, you are asked to take your pet to the vet & they take the pet into the surgery, but the owner is not allowed to go in with it......so they are not spreading the infection!

If hospitals don't have sufficient PPE that is the fault of the NHS, not veterinary practices.
Nobody is having an easy time over this infection & the professional people are doing their best to save lives.... that includes humans & animals, but it won't speed up human operations, that aren't considered life threatening, by stopping vets from doing their job.
My vets have told me they are using face masks, just like other people are, but they don't have PPE, just sensible rules!

Re: Pets or Humans?

Swimmy - with all the knowledge and training you tell us you have had - it amazes me that you sometimes come out with such a load of rubbish.

Of course Veterinary Surgeries should stay open - they are far less likely to spread C19 than a visit to A&E would. The Vet's are probably a lot cleaner than some of our hospitals - being smaller and easier to manage.

They are not 'denying' the NHS staff PPE - the only people doing that were the government who failed to act quickly enough. Something they have since addressed I believe, and PPE is readily available on Amazon anyway.

It is not a question of Pets being more important than humans - it is a question of responsibility. You take a pet into your home - you are responsible for it's welfare.

Absolute tosh Swims, where do you think this stuff up? PPE use in vets is minimal and social distancing is so rigorous we are not even allowed in with our pets now, we have to sit in our cars whilst they are treated!

Do try to get a grip....

Well said girls, and Barry.
Tabby, you have spoken my thoughts exactly.

The OP - by a non pet owner, who doesn't even have a vet -
shows not only bitterness but such a lack of knowledge, I am almost laughing here.

I know exactly what's going on here, and I'm not biting.

Re: Pets or Humans?

Our vets is only open for emergencies, not routine appointments. I would not deny any animal emergency treatment. As for spreading the virus, I am more concerned about all the Eastern Europeans turning up.
