Re: Home Insurance?

I currently pay £9.78/month with Saga. This is for contents only, as my buildings insurance is paid with the rent/service charges to the housing association.

Been with them a few years and just allow it to roll over each year. When I think it's becoming exorbitant then I'll no doubt have a word.

I think maybe you should get a new quote. I just ran a contents only cover through 'Compare The Market'. The lowest quote was from ... SAGA!

Trouble is with the above it only came to £37.45!

Annual: £37.45
Monthly: 1 x £3.46, 11 x £3.42, Total £41.08

Voluntary excess: £100
Amount covered: £75,000
New for Old
Home Emergency Assistance from£39.99
Legal Protection from £14.25
Freezer Cover

You are paying between £110 - £120!

Re: Home Insurance?

My renewal just came with an accompanying letter saying this:

"Please not that HM Revenue & Customs has increased the rate of Insurance Premium Tax from 6% to 9.5%. This affects all policies from 1st November 2015 and has been reflected in your renewal premium."

Hence, I suppose they've all gone up now.

Re: Home Insurance?

I search for new quotes at every renewal, you get nothing for loyalty these days and I switch to suit my purse and needs.

I don't haggle because they only try to make you take out something you don't need (Sky TV are the worst for that)... I say this is what I want, what's your quote and if it suits me I go for it, if not I say thank you it's not good enough and I will continue getting quotes.

Does it make much difference if you are covered?

I'm with AA now as they were the cheapest. The cover seems as good as any other. In fact it includes more than I had before for half the price.

Re: Home Insurance?

Muddy; as an AA pensioner, I get an extra discount from the normal market cost.
It still would cost me more than by playing SAGA against Churchill, so I steer clear of the AA.

Also avoid automatic renewals. Churchill, for example, can charge you £35 if you change to another company - this is to discourage you from swapping.....
