Re: Genealogy
My paternal Grandad and his family came from Liverpool in 1900. I am delighted that my older daughter, 44, has become interested enough to visit Liverpool this weekend to research their life and times.
I visited in 2002 & was surprised at how grand the centre and docks were.
I spent a day in the archives ( not necessary today cos it's all on the internet)
My grandad died 8 years before I was born & while my dad was in Ceylon in WW2, so I never met him but I have found that the back to back, dilapidated houses, 2 up 2 down are exactly the same as the ones he lived in when he settled in our home port city..
THey were known as DILAPIDATED housing, they really meant SLUMS. Poverty & deprivation knew no bounds.
