Re: Mark's Poems & Prose
A Piece of Toast
What is it with this piece of toast?
Why do you value it the most?
To preserve it is quite a task
Pickled in vinegar, as of old, in a cask?
There is great sentiment attachment to the crust
A wondrous story unfolds - to tell us is a must
Who was the person that chewed upon it so?
Was it a 'he' but now gone out the door?
Was he tall and handsome with a wicked sense of humour?
He was of royal birth? - no, just a rumour?
Well beggars can't be choosers in this day and age
Ah, I can see it now - toy boy - but all the rage
Still no good to have him in your home for too long
For one thing think about all the dirty clothes and pong
Men like him have primitive desires and are never very clean
On top of that boredom might set in and he could become mean
No, you are better off having packed his bags
Having kicked him out even if he ends up in rags
But the toast he chewed upon is a juicy reminder
You can suck on it now and then and fantasise, kinda
