Re: Spring Clematis

Now it’s in full bloom.
These are the assorted lilacs I have in the backyard. When I open the window the scent is intoxicatingly pleasant.

I've got four Clematis, but three are small ones just get to about 6ft - 8ft, as I haven't got the room for large ones to ramble.

I have a blue one, which is not in flower yet, a bright cerise one and this white one, both of which have already flowered.
Then a lovely pale pink one with a dark leaf, which is more rampant.

The white one is called 'Miss Bateman', and this is what it looks like.
(Not my picture).

Here is my Miss Bateman.
It’s a bit past her prime but still lovely.

Miss Bateman is a lovely clematis Bratti - and your lilacs look like they do well in your garden.

Thank you summer. I’d love to see pictures of your deep purple Clematis. Is it a Jackmani or President. Or do you even remember the name of it?

Lilacs are legendary.

I am not very good in the garden and have had a clematis in my garden for over 10 years but never flowered until this year for some reason. This year it is a mass of deep purple flowers. I have pictures but don't know how to get them on here.

Re: Spring Clematis

I know you asked summer this question but I have a couple if possible ideas.

Clematis love to have shaded roots. They don’t like their roots getting dried out so if there isn’t a small bush in front of it or big Hosta plant etc., so the roots don’t get dried out.

The tops of Clematis need full sun while the bottom needs shade. Your Clematis may have dried out some so not produced flowers previously.

This year everyone no matter where they live globally, got plenty of rain so flowering trees and bushes did incredibly well this spring/summer. This also supplies additional nutrition to the plant itself.

Another possibility is that it got cut down. Hard cutting Clematis right down helps them regain their health so that they may flower profusely after barely flowering at all.

Pictures. Ha. I’m not very computer literate but if you go to advanced post you will see a paper clip to the right of the smiling face in your top right hand corner. If you click on that it should open up a format with a button “choose file.”

Click that and it should open up wherever your pictures are stored on your phone / computer.

I’d love to see both of your purple clematis.
