I used to work in a factory where we made hairdryers, there are technical reasons why they became longer and I would recommend we stick with longer snouts. I saw some nasty pictures when I worked in product complaints of people who had long hair and had been sucked into the dryer, also where elements had failed and burned people because they were close to them.
Safety is the reason they are long.
Julie I have discovered the latest very expensive dryers are quite compact , they also have a kind of mesh on the back to prevent long hair being sucked into the dryer.
Yes, I have had to give in and buy a smaller hairdryer cos I can't do with the aching arms, oh the joys of growing older.
I did actually get my hair stuck in the 'dryer a few years back, OH had to release me, not a a pleasant experience!

Ah technology is getting better, it was 30 odd years ago I worked in a hairdryer factory.
