Does anyone here make yogurt?

The title says it all.. OH came home with a silly yogurt maker yesterday and seems keen to try it.

I'll give it a go just to keep him happy ( he doesnt even eat the stuff) our daughter is lactose intolerant and Im wondering if anyone has tried a lactose free variant?

If so did it work and was it worth the bother...

I make yogurt everyday, never tried lactose free my lot like full cream milk. I use a bit of yesterday's as a starter and a Phillips one litre yogurt machine over night.

I tried it when I used to have the goats, Cass, but could never get a decent 'set' on it, so gave up. Mind you, I didn't have a Yoghurt maker, I used a wide neck vacuum flask.

Everyone can make yoghurt - its not difficult - just leave a pint of milk on the shelf in the kitchen long enough and you'll soon have your very own yoghurt - errrgh, yuk, foul stuff!!!

Re: Does anyone here make yogurt?

Yoghurt is not one of my favourite foods - but - given that it is supposed to be good for me, I invested in an EasyYo maker. Yohurt tasted OK but I was not all together convinced that some of the ingredients were healthy - plus - it made too much at any one time so was rather wasteful. It now resides at the back of a cupboard in the kitchen.

Have never tried an electric maker, Julie - can you adjust the quantity in those ?

I guess you could to be honest I have to run two over night we get through a lot of yogurt so it's finding one big enough.

I have seen one has individual portion size pots might work well for you as you can make as many portions as you want in the little screw top jars.

Hi

No inclination to make the stuff at all, cheaper to buy it.

Ah but making it yourself you know what's in it, some of the shop bought ones aren't exactly healthy for you IMO.

I use EasiYo - dead easy to make. Not sure whether they do lactose free though
