Re: search for second earth

Those maps would be explained by somebody having managed to travel through time. Time travel could also open possible solutions for space travel too.

Well, those time travellers couldn't have been very clever because 16th century maps have an accuracy, at most, of 80%, and that's on the coastline of the Mediterranean. Elsewhere, major inaccuracies occur, as in this map of 1600 by by cartographer Arnoldo di Arnoldi

You can't travel back in time.
However, you can travel forward, although in reality it's more a change of state.

For example, if you took off from the Earth, accelerate to light speed and travelled for two hours, turned around and came back, you would be simply 4 hours older. However, circa 7-9 years will have passed on Earth. Time slows when you approach light speed.

This is a proven theory, where atomic clocks were used in space.

You're not allowing for artistic interpretation of what they'd seen

Not at present, but maybe in the future

The maths (Lorentz's Relativity Transformations) provide methods for these calculations.

However, if one could travel through time without having to go through the speed of light, and since speed=dist/time, then, er, I'm not sure

I don't think our current laws forbid going back in time per se.
However, it depends if the theorized negative energy actually exists, and if it does, can we control it.
Possible in theory, probably not in practicality.

Re: search for second earth

We are already zooming through space at a 'Zillion' miles per hour as we engage in our annual circumnavigation of the sun... Why don't we just get off and wait for the rest of space to come to us?

The Earth is just a giant spaceship....

A most interesting proposition It'd be equivalent to jumping off a boat on a fast and deep river (drifting downsteam) and trying to swim against the current so that one is stationary relative to the bank, and waiting for the next boat to drift along. Good luck with that
