The Jolly Rodger, a black flag with a white skull over and two
white crossed bones under, hoisted by pirates before attacking
merchant gessells in order to capture them and their cargoes!
Sometimes coastal towns were pillaged as well!
If pirates were caught the punishment was usually to be hung,
drawn, and quartered!
Perhaps that punishment should be reinstated?

Re: DUTCH Super Trawler

Didn't the cod wars with Iceland occur because British waters were fished out. I lived in Folkestone at the time and the local fishing fleet was having a very hard time of it because of the diminishing fish stocks. I don't think there are (m)any boats left in the Folkestone fishing fleet now.

Anecdotally; when my brother (from Macclesfield) visited last year he took photographs of the fish shop display because he said he had never seen anything like it. This is in a minor shopping mall outside Wollongong. Our fish is relatively expensive because of fishing quotas but it is plentiful ie a kilogram of tiger prawns is about $23 locally (12 pounds)

Tiger prawnshave travelled half the world before they are on display in european fishshops. That adds to their cost.

Well, we could go and fish english waters under belgian flag, you know.
In 1666 the English king Charles II donated the Privilegie der Visscherie to Bruges. In it, the king gave Bruges fishermen eternal rights to fish in English waters. In the English legal system, with its common law, this document might well be valid. John bercow found some old rule earlier this year that turned out to be valid, so we may strike lucky with the belgian flag.
