Re: Havant or Portsmouth knowledge

He could spend a couple of hours in the Natural History Museum, if he is interested in that sort of thing, and it's free entry.

If you have ant relatives who were sailors and have no known grave there is the big obelisk a memorial for those lost in the first world war.
Or the monument at the side, for those lost at sea in the last war.
They are just up the road at Southsea from the bus station, virtually opposite the hovercraft station, a cheap ride on the free bus.

Re: Havant or Portsmouth knowledge

The natural history museum is virtually behind the boating lake in Southsea. Also there is the rose garden and a memorial to the 'Cockelshell heroes'.

Southsea castle, the D-Day museum and Overlord tapestry are also on the promenade. Portsmouth city museum is pretty good too - it's on Museum street (strangely enough)! Unfortunately, my favourite museum there is unlikely to be open - the 'Pumping engine' house at Eastney. It features a pair of Bolton & Watt beam engines and a great collection of pumping machinery. Bear in mind that Portsea island is just above sea level, so pumps are needed to darin the land and pump 'waste' away.

Re: Havant or Portsmouth knowledge

Hubby and dog are home now.

After dropping Asti off he went and visited Hayling Island, he went there with his parents as a child and he found where they had stayed. He said Hayling Island isn't the place it used to be all those years ago (but then what place is in this country ).

After a while he then went onto Emsworth, he said that was a lovely place, very oldy worldy.

He then ended back in Havant.

Hi! Way past the op site but would have suggested Portsdown hill and a visit to Fort Nelson (free) pretty amazing! Then looking out over the hill is inspiring.
