Price of a wall?

I need a short garden wall building - about 3 metres long by 1 metre high.

I've put a job appeal out on the my builder site and had contact from one builder so far who'd going to come & give me a quote.

I've no idea what to expect to pay for this. I've been looking on the internet but not come up with any clear answer.

Can anybody give me an idea what would be a reasonable price to pay please? I only want a single thickness garden wall measuring 3x1 metre.

With Tony having dementia I have to do all these things myself now & I don't want to get ripped off.

Thanks.

The material cost of 3x1 metres of brickwork and footing should be circa 180.00, plus the labour charge.

Re: Price of a wall?

A single thickness wall of that height would be quite unstable Carol, so either have it built double thickness or make sure some pillars are incorporated into the design to add strength.

A square metre of brickwork equates to 60 bricks single thickness, so a wall of that size would need 180 bricks at single thickness, 360 bricks at double thickness or around 240 bricks for a single thickness with pillars.

In rough terms then, including the excavation and concreting of a simple foundation and some sort of concrete coping then I would be looking to pay around six or seven hundred pounds.

Agree with Spitfire - 200 bricks @ (say 50p per brick), plus copings plus sand, cement ballast and spoil removal (if needed) gives materials.

Labour - approx a full day's worth in terms how many hours it's take, but as it'll probably mean having to split it over a couple of days as the footing needs time to set, you'll probably have to pay for 2 days. As a mad estimate, you're probably looking at 500 all in.

Re: Price of a wall?

Thank you Spitfire. I think with the labour added on, your answer would be much the same as Barry's.

Barry thank you so much.
I now have a guideline to go by and will not pay anymore than that.

I can't tell you what a relief it is to reach out on here and get an answer from somebody who knows what they're talking about.

Thank you Dextrouse63. I didn't see your answer.
I would be over the moon if I could get it done for 500.

4k Was this to be built using pea single, with each pebble being individually laid and pointed in?

Much will of course depend on your choice of materials, bricks can vary between as much as 200 and 600 per thousand...
