Re: Fireworks

One night recently fireworks were going off at 1:30
They have been going off all evening and I bet it will be the same for the next week .
They are so loud and powerful these day I wish they could be restricted to public displays.
When there were cattle in the next field they used to go wild when they heard fireworks.

Re: Fireworks

I also wonder about the Sheep in the fields.
A lot of them will be pregnant by now.

These 'Lanterns' people set alight and send off into the sky are a menace too.

Apart from the fact they frighten livestock, don't people ever consider what would happen if one landed on a haystck or pile fo straw bales?

Horses hate them, when my Brother had their horses & they lived on the edge of a town, they had to send them to a friend way out in the country to keep them safe at vast expense. I feel for any animal owners who can't do that.
We have horses near us & they are all stabled at night.

Re: Fireworks

Firework sales for personal use were banned in NSW in the mid 1980s. My kids, now in their thirties, have never been able to buy them, I don't miss them and obviously neither do they.

The reason for banning them was nothing to do with animals but the horrific injuries they inflicted on children every year. It might be worth looking up those UK statistics if you want to make a good case.

Let's face it animals still hear the public displays.

True - but at least they don't also face the danger of irresponsible idiots throwing fireworks about in the street at all hours of the day or night - plus - public displays are usually on one given day, meaning we know in advance and can keep our pets safely indoors - give them a tranquilizer if they are likely to be really distressed. At the moment it is just random throughout most of October right up to bonfire night and divali.

Re: Fireworks

Hi

I love fireworks, great fun.

My dogs have never had an issue with them.

It is a two way street, I have problems with cats messing in my garden and dog poo on the pavements.

I do not find it necessary to ban ownership of cats and dogs.

If we are to have only Public Displays of fire works, then perhaps we should have only Public Displays of cats and dogs.

Re: Fireworks

So far so good there’s been no premature explosions, all quiet here. I expect that to change this weekend with many organised displays . I live in the New Forest lots of ponies and cattle as well as pets , I would like to the whole thing stopped .

Re: Fireworks

we have fireworks going off all year round where I live as we have a lot of Asian weddings and they celebrate by setting fireworks off, usually after midnight too! I've no idea why the need to set them off at that time, to me it's quite selfish with no thought for the mothers of babies who have just got their babies off to sleep or old people.

I don't mind watching organised fireworks, the best display I ever saw was in Florida, it was magical and spectacular.

I HATE the loud bangers, they get louder every year that goes by, only last night I was just coming out of Asda and I nearly had a fit, one went off so loud I swear I felt the ground shake, frightened the life out of me!

I'll sign it. Fireworks in the wrong hands can be catastrophic
