Re: new names for clothes

I saw a program recently on BBC4 about the damage corsets used to do to the female body, squeezing and pushing up vital organs inside the body, death traps they were, glad to hear they are gone forever and the women can let it all hang out now without worrying how they look, viva la freedom!

Re: new names for clothes

I seem to remember a TV programme - from years ago - where they interviewed a woman who had worn extra tight corsets for so many years (20, I think) that it would actually damage her to stop wearing them. She had a 14 inch waistline (!!) which just looked silly and out of proportion to the rest of her. They had a doctor in the show who said that her internal organs would have adapted so much over the years that she would never be able to stop wearing the corset.

I wonder whatever happened to her?

Re: new names for clothes

I also had a great Jump suit in the 70's. Felt like a great way to dress until it was the toilet time. Cold toilets in those days were normal in pubs especially the outdoor ones. Looked good but not practable when out drinking.
Couldn't stand wearing a onesie as I cant stand being enclosed in clothes.
I like loose clothing and still wear t shirts even in Winter.
The woman with the 14" waist sounds just like the obsessed of today who
have had dozens of plastic surgery operations done to them. They look as though they are falling apart and I suppose that woman would cave in if she didn't wear the corset. The natural look is best.
