Ill Gotten Gains

It is only right that the Police can now apply to Courts for permission to auction criminals goods usually bought through the proceedings of crime or fraud.
Plus Jail sentences as well

There should be many more Police available for this work.

Why not let Private Detectives help also as they are experienced, and frequent Pubs and Clubs where they hear all the gossip about unemployed people having long expensive holidays and buying expensive Vehicles and Rolex watches as well as Designer Trainers costing £500.00 +
Criminals like to boast about there 'Ill-Gotten Gains' that they steal for a living.

Some of this money goes to the Police Charity Fund where itis put to good use for the benefit of the Town and Local venues where most needed.

This will not deter hardened criminals nor will a few years in Jail as they work in gangs, and have all the hidden loot to come home to, but it will deprive them of some of the many expensive items they have bought with the proceeds of crime.

Pillars of society have been known to accumulate wealth, in an Ill Gotten Manner, should they also be available for scrutiny.

There was a case like this on a TV programme this morning (maybe that's what prompted your thread Azure). I think it is great that goods are sold off at public auction. The only thing I objected to was that the proceeds were given to government to ''pay towards schools etc''....

yeah right!

I think the money should go to the victims of crime.

Much better that the money goes towards further crime-fighting, imo.
That'll serve the criminals right!

Victims who are injured by criminals can claim compensation.
Some times Police recover stolen good and it is returned to the owners.
If it is proved that criminals have bought a property with the proceeds of crime, it could be confiscated and sold to recover the money or the cost of stolen goods
