Umbrella rebellion in Hong Kong!

The hong kong protests have esculated to occupation of
the legislative buildings!
obviously the people dont trust their elected leaders to stick
by their promises to completely remove the new law they are
attempting to bring into force!
I dont think the people will win this battle once China gets
fully behind forcing this law through!
I think they have allready reinforced the Hong Kong police
with Chinese personel judging by the numbers of police on
the streets?
Looks like Hong Kong has more police in that small state than
the whole of uk?
The question needs to be asked where are the arrested
protesters being taken to ?

Arrested protestors ? Very questionable.

I can see an influx of Hong Kongers. There's a lot looking for ways out of Hong Kong according to Reuters .
Some have British passports but not for permanent residence, although there is one guy about to lobby the British Government on that.

The Umbrella Rebellion

The Yellow Vest Movement

What will UK's rebellion be ? The Wellington Boot ?

Re: Umbrella rebellion in Hong Kong!

I think the problem is that ever since 1898 when the UK promised to return Hong Kong and the New Territories in 99 years, I believe the young of Hong Kong wish we had never returned them to China.

Hong Kong developed quickly under UK rule to become one of the world’s major financial and businesses centres. . It is a complete world away from mainland China’s authoritarian one-party Communist rule. China agreed at the time of the return of Hong Kong that it would always be the principle of “One country, two systems”. Where the city would enjoy a high degree of autonomy, except in foreign affairs and defence affairs for the next 50 years.

From what I’ve read - Hong Kong became a Special Administrative Region. This means it has:

It’s own legal system.
Multiple political parties
Rights including freedom of assembly and free speech.

This is called the Basic Law - and Hong Kong has its own mini-constitution to enshrine these special rights.

Hence, the protest marches, when the Hong Kong government tried to railroad legislation through for criminals (and others) to be returned to mainland China to be dealt with.

It’s kind of how we here feel the same about the European Arrest Warrant !!! Guilty until proven Innocent, when our law has always been Innocent until proven Guilty.

Vast difference.

I didnt know whether to post under medical or political subjects
as l am suffering from aboil in my left ear canal which has
progressed now to my right ear despite being treated by anti
biotics!
However, seeing the escalating public order problems in Hong
Kong this week l got to thinking ( as one does). Has communist
China now got a boil in its ear with its ownership of Hong Kong??

It's non of our business. The very last thing that the UK, or even worse the EU should do would be to get involved.

I think your right there Todgy! They are allready looking for
scapegoats among the international community, lt could turn
very nasty for hong kongers soon! The communist powers that be
are fearing contamination across the border!
We should, as you say, stand well back?
