Resigned of Sacked.

Does requesting someone to submit a letter of resignation, as in the now former US attorney general Jeff Sessions, constitute being sacked or has he resigned?

In a BBC news bulletin this morning at 4 am the words fired and resigned are mentioned in the same report.

Confused of Edinburgh.

When it was announced they said he had been resigned ?? sounded more like sacked in that context I thought. But perhaps BBC are as puzzled as me at how it was said.

I know some people are given the option to resign before they are sacked, it looks better on their CV.

I guess for some who hold positions which come with 'benefit packages' resigning allow them to retain some benefits where sacking would not.

Surely it's constructive dismissal.

If he resigned probably not as I suspect he gets to keep all his benefits and pensions but you do make an interesting point.

Re: Resigned of Sacked.

I read it as that he was forced to resign as his letter to Trump alluded to it.

Looks like he was given no choice! I wouldn't be surprised if Trump didn't put the pen and paper in front of him.
A case of "go with some dignity" rather than "empty your desk and be escorted out".

Re: Resigned of Sacked.

An addendum to my previous post:

In a resignation letter, Mr Sessions - a former Alabama senator who was an early supporter of Mr Trump - made clear the decision to go was not his own.

"Dear Mr President, at your request I am submitting my resignation," he wrote in an undated letter.

Trump is like a petulant child who can't get his own way and doesn't like being challenged. His latest escapade is suspending a CNN reporter from the Whitehouse because he didn't like the course of questioning. He then used the ridiculous excuse that the reporter in questioned `man-handled` a Whitehouse intern. As can be seen in this film clip, it was clearly not the case - she attempted to grab him first. Another zoomed in version of the film was released on Twitter but as others have pointed out, the film has clearly been doctored (edited) to present the reporter in a bad light. Two versions of the film, the original and edited have been release running side by side and you can clearly see the discrepancy between the two.

Acosta did man handle the Whitehouse intern.

This link just shows Trump.

Re: Resigned of Sacked.

I suppose it is all down how far you take political correctness and interpretation of man handling.
This is supposedly the leader of the free world acting like a spoilt brat when things do not go his way. Why did he not try to remove the microphone, why did he not intervene instead of allowing a young intern to get involved, mind you there has to be something wrong with her to want to work anywhere near that lunatic though they do say that people can be turned on by power?
