Algarve

Quick message here: - first 5 days in Albufeira brilliant - could not ask for better room and hotel.
Would recommend this to anyone who likes self-catering holidays - we´ve found it more expensive that we were told BUT if you shop around they do own brand here too and it`s fine.Bars and restaurants much the same prices but it all depends where they are; the closer to the beach the more expensive or close to main areas. Still yet to have authentic Portuguese food but looking out tonight!!! stevmk2

Re: Algarve

Glad you're having a lovely time

I'm not sure there are any cheap holiday places left now.

Re: Algarve

We're back!!
We had such a great time in Albufeira in Portugal and this time it was rather special for me as I was 60 on the 10th of September so we had a Portuguese meal out in the town in an old-fashioned Abega restaurant – Fish Cataplana after lobster and garlic patés hors d’oeuvres with fresh Portuguese bread and a lovely bacon and mushroom starter. Cost a bit but it was genuine Portuguese rather than the Northern European stuff they sell everywhere else – burgers, steaks, pizza, spaghetti, chicken Piri-Piri etcetera.
During our stay we had temperatures of around 28 degrees nearly all the time – that’s shade temperatures – and, in the Eastern Algarve we visited Vilamoura, Tavira, Faro, Oura, Olhos de Agua, Olhoã Monte Gordo, Vila Real de San António, Ayamonte (Spain – but only just!) plus Portimão, Lagos, Sagres and Cape St.Vincent in the Western Algarve, most of it by public transport – far cheaper than the tours!
We went self-catering and found it a bit more than we originally expected but as it’s a tourist area you have to expect a bit of a price hike so we shopped around a fair bit, including going to Lidl and bought what the locals go for – so we had a fair bit of fish!!
Mind you we had a lovely Chinese meal on Wednesday night that was absolutely staggering – so much for a simple set meal!! Ended up waddling home at 10:30!

Re: Algarve

Welcome home Martin! Glad you and your wife had such a good holiday..... it appears you packed a lot into it by visiting all those different places.

We did remember your big 60 birthday and gave you a mention in the Celebrations section.

Now the important question ......... did you take any photos that you can share with us?
