Would you give your kids total freedom?

I wouldn't have given my children total freedom. However, a certain amount of freedom to take responsibility for their own actions under parental guidance is the right thing to do, imo.

As a child i had a right to roam when playing, but as a child my opinions were not allowed to be expressed for fear of a beating.

For my son we did control his activities to a degree but made sure he had plenty of choice,i did however make sure we listened to his concerns and made sure he knew he could voice them.

Our children were encouraged to express their views and ask questions, no subject was taboo.

Children need boundaries and to know there will be consequences if they step over them. Surely that teaches them responsibility? Too many parents these days let their children run riot.

I agree Tabs.
I especially don't like it when kids run riot in shops, or when they are allowed to leave the table and run round in cafes/restaurants.

That's right. Otherwise they grow up unruly, undisciplined and spoilt. They need to know when not to step over the line

As long as they don't wreck the place and are safe (i.e. cookers etc.) my grandchildren have total freedom of house and garden when they come to our house.
